It is with deep gratitude and excitement that I have the opportunity to serve as your Assistant Principal at Hitch Elementary. As a Chicago native, it has always been my goal to come back and work for the city that helped shape who I am today. Over the past decade, I have been lucky enough to serve Chicago’s children as a teacher, literacy coach, case manager, and Resident Principal.
I began my career as a high school civics teacher. After working with high school students, I went back to school to earn my LBS1 in order to gain the skills necessary to support diverse learners. After six years as a high school teacher, I decided to seek a new challenge and accepted a job as an elementary special education teacher. Having the opportunity to work at the high school and elementary level has provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the learning continuum from the primary to college level. Early in my career, I was given opportunities to be a teacher leader. With the additional responsibility, my administrators provided me with support to build my capacity as a leader. I realized that as a teacher leader my impact expanded beyond the walls of my classroom. The chance to have a broader impact on students’ lives made the decision to enter school leadership an easy one. As the proud Resident Principal at Palmer Elementary, I was charged with building instructional capacity of special education teachers and implementing restorative practices protocols to improve student safety and social emotional health.
School has always been an important part of my life. I was raised in a middle class home with two working parents. My mother is a CPS teacher and she instilled in me at a very young age the importance of education. I have always been in school and some may even consider me a professional student. I earned my Master’s Degree in Reading Education from Concordia University and my Education Specialist Degree in School Administration from National Louis University. I am currently seeking my Ed.D in School Administration from National Louis University.
As your Assistant Principal, I will work in partnership with you, support your ideas, and use your voice in school decision making. Most importantly, I will ensure that your child has a safe, supportive, and welcoming school experience.
I am so excited to begin this new journey with you!
